Most patients can wear a Clear Retainer. Made of a clear material and designed to fit directly over the teeth, they resemble a thin version of the moldable mouth guard and are invisible to all but the patient. -
Hawley Retainer
The Hawley Retainer is designed with an acrylic piece that fits perfectly on the roof of your mouth or under the tongue. Teeth are held in their positions by a metal wire that runs along the front of the teeth. -
Herbst Appliance
The Herbst Appliance, affectionately known as the “Shock Absorber,” is a bite-jumping device used to enhance the growth of the lower jaw in a forward direction and at the same time, to apply pressure to the upper jaw in a backward direction. -
MARA Appliance
The Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance (MARA) is a bite advancer worn in the mouth to correct your overbite/overjet in the most predictable and efficient manner. -
Panorex
A panoramic radiograph or Panorex is a panoramic scanning dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaw. It shows a two-dimensional view of a half-circle from ear to ear. This is done during your Quality Control or QC appointment and takes about 30-45 minutes. -
Removable Palatal Expander
The Removable Palatal Expander (PSA) is an appliance worn in the mouth to expand the upper jaw which creates more space for the teeth and to allow a better fit with the lower jaw. -
Rubber Band Instructions
The use of Elastics/Rubber Bands is an important part of successful treatment. To be effective, they must be worn as directed by our office. If worn properly, rubber bands are very efficient. -
Slenderizing
Slenderizing is typically performed to make space for crowded teeth to straighten out. -
Spacers / Separators
A spacer is a device placed between teeth that creates a small space. Spacers/Separators are custom tailored to fit snuggly between each tooth and move them slightly apart. -
Tooth Positioner
Like a retainer, the Tooth Positioner holds the teeth in their proper position but also helps to settle the bite. It must be worn 24 hours a day, for at the first 4 to 7 days.
